FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR A SMALL MODULAR REACTOR (SMR)

The international community is mobilizing for the development of low-carbon energy, which is now used in all sectors: electricity, heating, transport, industry... However, today's low-CO2 energy sources are not yet sufficient to achieve carbon neutrality, currently representing only 13% of the global energy mix.

Against this backdrop of energy transition and growing global demand for electricity, SMRs (Small Modular Reactors) represent a concrete response:

  • To replace fossil fuel power plantsemissions, high CO2 and still overstretched
  • To overcome the difficulties of access to low-carbon electricity for isolated areas and off-grid installations
  • To meet the need for low-carbon production, as close to the need as possible (replacing generators, for example)
  • To compensate the intermittency of renewable energies 
  • To make the most of nuclear power source of electricity and heat production, including hydrogen production
  • To get around the difficulties and constraints inherent in major nuclear projects (including financing)
  • To meet the needs energy independence many countries

The development of a global market for SMRs is a key challenge for both governments and manufacturers wishing to develop and sell this new type of modular reactor.
