Hinkley Point C: supplying 6 million UK homes with low-carbon energy

With the construction of 2 EPR reactors (HPC 1&2), BSN Engineering is involved in one of the UK's major industrial projects.

EDF Energy has launched the construction of two new reactors on the Hinkley Point site to cover around 7 % of the country's electricity needs.

As part of this project, BSN engineering was awarded several contracts for welding expertise and supplier monitoring.

BSN Engineering is responsible for :

  • validation of welding consumables;
  • supplier monitoring;
  • guaranteeing compliance with specifications and the quality of delivered components.

*NNB is the structure created by EDF Energy, EDF's British subsidiary, for the Hinkley Point project, in partnership with the Chinese nuclear group CGNC (China General Nuclear Corporation).

 

Key project dates

  • October 2013: AREVA, EDF, CGN and CNNC sign cooperation agreements
  • October 2014: Positive decision by the European Commission
  • 2015: London and Beijing sign agreement to build two EPRs
  • July 2016: Final investment decision by EDF's Board of Directors
  • September 2016: UK government agreement to build 2 EPR reactors at Hinkley Point C and finalization of contracts between AREVA NP and UK project stakeholders.
  • March 31, 2017: 1st concrete pour for the power plant galleries
  • March 2022: Installation of the liner ring 2 "on the first reactor building
